A lasting power of attorney is an innovative legal tool for future planning that is an alternative to the need for the appointment of a guardian by the court.

A lasting power of attorney allows each person to determine his or her future and decide how and by whom his or her future affairs will be handled – when he or she reaches a state of cognitive impairment – an event that can occur without any warning such as : a serious accident, illness, dementia, etc.

This is a legal document that puts a person's will at the center – deciding in advance what his life will look like when he can no longer manage his affairs and appointing people he trusts as a proxy to act on his behalf and on his behalf.
